In the Telling: An Anthology
Updated: Sep 29
When starting my MFA program, an instructors hit on the importance of joining a writers group. I did a quick google search and started looking into chapters affiliated with the California Writer's Club. I decided to attend one of the Writers of Kern meetings and then joined.
Since last Spring, I have gotten to attend monthly meetings and conferences that have allowed me the opprotunity to grow my writing network, and learn more about the buisness of publishing. I'm a part of the bi-monthly feedback group and genuinely look forward to discussing pieces with the other members who have become my friends.
When I heard the group was putting on an anthology, I jumped to summit three short speculative horror pieces that fit into the theme, in the telling. The titles of my accepted pieces are "Zaffre" and "Joshua Tree." Both fall into the speculative horror sphere with vastly different levels of horror.
"Zaffre" is a steam-punk influenced story told through a letter an old man sent to his daughter. The letter covers the death of her Great-Uncle Florence. Florence was a star sailor for the High Crown who trafficked a gorgeous alien back to Earth when the author was nine-years old.
"Joshua Tree" is a tale of caution set around a campfire in the Mojave desert. It follows the main narrator, den leader Mark, as he tells young campers about a time he wandered off from his pack as a youngster . . . the terror he discovered.
If these stories sound intriguing to you, and you are interested in poetry, memoir, and other creative writing genres, follow the link to purchase the ebook!
